An experienced educational administrator and teacher, Matthew Eriksen has served in several positions in the North Shore School District in IL. Currently, Matthew Eriksen is the president, CEO, and consultant for 4XF, an educational consulting group in Northbrook, IL, that also manufacturers products to promote skills in executive functioning.
Executive functioning skills, such as time management, organization, problem-solving, task initiation, self-monitoring, and long-range planning, enable people to manage themselves and their resources. Executive functioning skills come naturally to some people, but others may need coaching.
Students rely on executive functioning skills for many daily tasks, such as getting ready for school, cleaning their rooms, and completing homework assignments. If a parent or teacher notices that a student has trouble estimating the time a project will take or planning or completing a project, the student’s executive functioning skills may be weak. When a problem is perceived, an educational specialist or coach may be able to help the student develop and strengthen these skills.
